COVID-19 Hotline Calls

As the only local state-designated family violence center, SafeHaven manages Tarrant County’s only domestic violence hotline. The hotline is answered by trained professionals 24/7/365.

In a normal year, we receive about 65 calls per day on average. Since SafeHaven provides not just shelter but much more, we get all kinds of calls with all kinds of requests. Not all 65 calls are requests for the shelter intervention.

Immediately prior to Tarrant County’s stay-at-home order, we saw a small spike in calls, while survivors were realizing they had a window of opportunity to escape an abuser. Immediately after the order, when survivors were trapped at home with abusers, we saw a sharp decline in calls.

In April, we evened out again, and our numbers crept back up to ‘normal.’ However, with quantity of incidents and severity of abuse both on the rise, we have seen a sustained 30% increase in hotline calls since early May – and we don’t see that settling down anytime soon.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please call our hotline at 1-877-701-7233. For emergencies please call 911.
