Erik Gross – Friendship Award

This National Volunteer Appreciation Week, SafeHaven is honoring the volunteers that allow us to continue working toward our mission.

Nine volunteers or volunteer groups were honored with awards at SafeHaven's "Round of Applause" event last Thursday, but we also want to let you get to know each of these incredible advocates for SafeHaven.

Let's take a look at our Friendship Award winner, Erik Gross. This award gives thanks to a particular supporter who graciously provides support through in-kind, non-monetary donation and who SafeHaven calls a friend.

Name: Erik Gross

Where do you volunteer at SafeHaven? Arlington Shelter

Why did you decide to get involved with SafeHaven? I originally signed on to volunteer with SafeHaven because it was one of the only places that would allow my children to volunteer with us. I started searching for opportunities eight years ago and SafeHaven really touched our hearts. We love being able to help this fine organization.

What has been your favorite memory working with SafeHaven? I can't say that there is ONE favorite. We make and serve dinner once a month at the Arlington Shelter. We have been doing this for the past eight years. This is the favorite part of my volunteer work with SafeHaven because the mothers and children always seem so glad to see us.

If you could choose any celebrity to volunteer with you for a day, who would it be and why? I would probably say a BBQ champ like Aaron Franklin. I make BBQ every month for our meal. The families seem to love it but I would sure take an expert opinion.
