The time is here to pick out our favorite costumes and throw diets aside with buckets of candy as we prepare for
Halloween at our two shelters. With the chaos of a new and unfamiliar environment, children at our shelter look forward to playing pretend by dressing up in costumes and playing carnival games. To the children we serve, a costume provides the power to be a super hero, a princess, and the opportunity to be the strongest person in the room!
Debbie Cardosa, a bilingual children’s counselor at the Arlington shelter stated, “the Halloween carnival is my absolute favorite event at SafeHaven. I can’t wait for this time of year.” As you can imagine, she is not the only one excited. The kids have so much fun that the minute they come home from school/daycare, they are climbing into their costumes and ready for trick and treating at the shelter. Last year, we had two kiddo’s who insisted on being Elsa and Olaf for the whole day!
