If you haven’t heard about the SafeHaven summer program, Adventure Camp, make sure to check it out HERE.
As Adventure Camp has been progressing for the children at our emergency shelters, they have been having fun (and learning!) as they “trek across the United States”.
On June 22nd, the children were pleasantly surprised when volunteers from Harmony Fellowship Church put together a block party called Mountains of Fun during their week of learning about Denver, CO.
The morning was filled with games like Giant Tic Tac Toe, Badminton, Potato Sack Races, and Yard Twister. Inside, volunteers and kids made crafts and cooled off from the summer heat.
We even had a special treat when Kona Ice stopped by and gave all of the families and volunteers sno-cones. Thank you Kona Ice for making the day so much sweeter!
With sweaty faces and sno-cone stained smiles, the kids kept saying that this is one of the best summers that they have ever had. While the morning was filled with fun and games, the children were able to stay on track with the safety planning and play therapy.
The children constructed duct tape first aid kits and learned about making safe decisions and how to be prepared. Volunteers from Harmony Fellowship helped cut, fold, and deal with the “sticky situations” that comes with duct tapes and little hands.
We would like to thank all of the volunteers from Harmony Fellowship who took time to spend with the children at our shelters. It is very special for the families at our shelter to have a summer that is safe and fun, and we could not have been able to provide a very special day for them without your help.
If you are interested in volunteering or getting involved in our children’s programs, we would love to hear from you!
