This National Volunteer Appreciation Week, SafeHaven is honoring the volunteers that allow us to continue working toward our mission.
Six volunteers or volunteer groups were honored with awards at SafeHaven’s “Round of Applause” event on Tuesday, but we also want to let you get to know each of these incredible advocates for SafeHaven.
Today’s volunteer is our Katie Carlson Advocacy Award winner, Rhonda Brunson. The Katie Carlson Advocacy Award honors an individual or organization in recognition of outstanding advocacy for his or her work to further the conversation of domestic violence and the mission of SafeHaven in the community.
Name: Rhonda Brunson
Where do you volunteer at SafeHaven? Current: Board of Directors/Fund Development Committee; Past: Client Services – Fort Worth Shelter
Why did you decide to get involved with SafeHaven? I decided to get involved with SafeHaven because I believed in their mission to end domestic violence in Tarrant County. They are a vital resource in our area, and I wanted to support them and the clients they serve.
What has been your favorite memory working with SafeHaven? My favorite memory with SafeHaven is working with a client to find a perfect interview outfit for the next day, and then coming back a week later to hugs of joy that she got the job!
If you could choose any celebrity to volunteer with you for a day, who would it be and why? I would choose to volunteer with Jennifer Aniston. I appreciate her gentle spirit and humor, and I think she would be encouraging to SafeHaven clients.
