Domestic violence is an issue everyone in Tarrant County should be working to end.
As the county’s only state-designated family violence program, SafeHaven is the subject-matter expert on domestic violence in Tarrant County and has the standing to serve in an expert capacity for many different purposes. If you are looking for an expert to speak to your group or workplace, please fill out the form below.
Expert Court Testimony
SafeHaven is pleased to provide expert testimony to our community and others outside Tarrant County. Staff will make a best effort to participate in felony-level trials and serve as experts in issues of intimate partner violence. Staff cannot serve in an expert role in misdemeanor or family court or on issues of broader family violence, sex assault or human trafficking. If staff agree to serve as an expert witness in a trial outside of Tarrant County, SafeHaven will ask for costs associated with travel, etc., to be covered by the requesting attorney.
When staff are asked to testify in an expert capacity, SafeHaven staff will:
Notify the Criminal District Attorney’s office of the request
Determine if schedules at SafeHaven allow for participation in trial
Need to connect with the attorney on the phone in advance
Require a subpoena
Send the attorney(s) a packet of information sometimes utilized in testimony + the resume of the expert witness
